Blueberry Picking
Blueberry picking is so fun to enjoy the day with family, friends, or by yourself. I have heard about blueberry picking a while back but hasn’t really put a lot of thought about it until I came across an ad in my facebook about it. So One Saturday morning, I decided to go there hence, my granddaughter was spending with us that day.
It was a bit of a ride to get there but the scenery of beautiful nature is always there. As soon as we got to FL SR-78A, it seems that you are away from civilization. I really mean to say is that, it just an open land with a lot of greeneries, and you see a few farmlands. There are beautiful housses house of course some of them are nice that you won’t think that it will be found there.
As you follow your direction along FL SR-78, you will be crossing the Caloosahatchee River with Fort Denaud Swing Bridge. It’s a small one way bridge. I do not have much information about the bridge but I am pretty sure you can do some research about it as my main thing here is about the enjoyable experience to have in blueberry picking.
So, no further due , I am talking about the Blueberry Bunch farm in Labelle, Florida that is.
When you get there, there is a parking space of course, and there the farm has a stand where they have the buckets ready prepared so that you are ready to go which orchard are designated to be farmed by public. They do give you some information about the different variety of blueberries in each orchard.
Blueberry Bunch farm has 39 acres of blueberries which 9 acres are organic and 30 acres of conventional berries. The farm has been farming blueberries for 18 years and they have been doing the UPICK event for 3 years so far.
These are the types of blueberries that they farmed.
- Avanti.
According to James W. Olmstead on his blog that Avanti is a vigorous, upright-growing bush with firm, high-quality fruit and a small dry picking scar.
- Arcadia.
According to Scottie from the farm himself who I conduct the interview with, Arcadia berries are bigger and sweeter.
- Kestrel
Scottie claims that this type of blueberry is the most sweetest of all the blueberry that they have in the farm. According to Minneopa Orchards, that Kestrel blueberries are aromatic and juicy, making a fantastic addition to your cooking or baking.
- Chickadee
Medium blue in color, sweet, low acidity, and tart.
- Winter Bell
Slightly tart, medium to large berry. According to Minneopa Orchard, Winter Bell Blueberry is described as “new kid on the block”as the berry was patented on 2009.

Aside from you picking up the blueberries, the farm also offers some other stuffs. You can buy a blueberry plant, arts and crafts, macadamia nuts which they also grow, and popsicle made 100% fruit juice no sugar added at all.
The Farm provides porta potties and a sanitizer station.
All I can say is when you are in Florida during the season of blueberry picking, I would suggest to add to your plan this exciting activity for fun and enjoyable memories.
